Bellina, owned by Cindy Osgood, earned her CGCThe Northeast Chow Chow Breeders held another Canine Good Citizen (CGC) event. This event was held on September 28, 2013 at the Westfield Fairgrounds in Westfield, Mass. Ten dogs entered our event, including 2 dogs owned by members. There were two chow chows, one Bluetick Coonhound, a German Shepherd, a Miniature American Shepherd, two Golden Retrievers, a Great Dane and two rescue dogs.

Of particular note is Bellina (picutred on the left). She is a rescue now proudly owned by Cindy Osgood. Bellina was found on the streets of New York. She has a rare illness and the shelter was not sure that it could find a forever-home willing to take her with her special medical needs. She lacked basic life-skills, but somehow fate intervened and she and the Osgoods found each other. Cindy has spent countless hours working with her, and she is a loving, affectionate dog who has become a joy to be around. Cindy brought Bellina to try for her CGC to prove that her Bellina has learned her lessons and indeed, she passed all the tests with flying colors. Bellina is indeed the epitome of a Canine Good Citizen and her story gives hope to everyone hearing it.

Everyone had fun encouraging each other, participating as the "crowd" or dog holder for the supervised separation, or just giving tips to the person readying themselves and their canine partner for the test. Everyone passed and each participant received a beautiful rainbow rosette, a dog toy and a Chinese take-out box filled with both people and dog treats.
